Hyderabad, Feb 7 (NationPress) Hyderabad FC is set to face Mohammedan SC in the Indian Super League (ISL) 2024-25 at the GMC Balayogi Athletic Stadium this Saturday. The home team is eager to bounce back from a 4-1 defeat against NorthEast United FC, while Mohammedan SC is striving to overcome their scoring woes, having recorded the lowest goals (8) in the league thus far.

In their previous encounter, Hyderabad FC secured a convincing 4-0 victory on October 26, 2024. A win in this match would mark the eighth time Hyderabad FC has achieved a league double against an opponent in the competition.

Currently, Hyderabad FC is focused on regaining their defensive solidity, having conceded multiple goals in their last two matches. Their last extended period of such a streak was a series of five games from April to September 2024. However, they have shown resilience at home, remaining unbeaten in their last three matches at the stadium, a streak only bettered during their four-game unbeaten run at home from December 2022 to February 2023.

Mohammedan SC has faced a challenging start to their ISL campaign, particularly in terms of offense, as they have gone scoreless in 11 matches this season. This unfortunate record is only surpassed by NorthEast United FC (12 in 2017-18) and Hyderabad FC (13 in 2023-24).

Hyderabad FC has garnered 13 points from 18 matches this season, with two draws and one victory in their last five fixtures, placing them at the second-to-last position in the points table. Mohammedan SC has a similar record in their recent five ISL matches, but they have suffered two consecutive defeats and find themselves at the bottom of the standings.

Hyderabad FC has scored 38 percent of their goals (6 out of 16) in the first 15 minutes of games, the highest proportion among all teams. Notably, three of those goals came during their 4-0 win against Mohammedan SC in their earlier matchup.

This season, Hyderabad FC has conceded eight headed goals, indicating a pressing need to improve their aerial defense to end the season on a positive note.

Before their 0-3 loss to Mumbai City FC on January 26, Mohammedan SC was on a four-game unbeaten streak, managing to hold goal-happy teams like Odisha FC (37) and NorthEast United FC (37) to goalless draws, followed by a 1-0 victory over Bengaluru FC. Their current goal is to regain that form.

In terms of defensive stats, Mohammedan SC has completed the fourth-most successful tackles (213) in the league this season, led by Mirjalol Kasimov (24) and Vanlalzuidika Chhakchhuak (23). However, Kasimov is suspended for this upcoming match.

Hyderabad FC's interim head coach Shameel Chembakath stated that his team has been working on improving areas where they fell short in their last match against NorthEast United FC.

“We have focused on areas where we lacked during our previous match against NorthEast United FC. We’ve made good progress in recovery and worked on aspects that need improvement,” he remarked.

Mohammedan SC’s assistant coach Mehrajuddin Wadoo emphasized the necessity of concentrating on the present to secure better results in the remaining games.

“I acknowledge that the last game was disappointing. We didn’t perform well. We still have six matches left and are trying to avoid dwelling on the past while focusing on the upcoming games,” he added.
